Impact of COVID-19 on Influenza Trends in India: A Comprehensive Analysis
Influenza, an airborne viral disease, is one of the most common diseases worldwide. The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly influenced the dynamics of other infectious diseases globally, particularly Influenza. This study explores the impact of COVID-19 on the cases and deaths due to influenza across India. Data for this study was collected from the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India. We have compared influenza cases and deaths before and after the onset of COVID-19 using bar plots and statistical tests. The extent of Influenza spread during the COVID-19 pandemic has also been highlighted (state-wise). Our analysis indicates a significant decrease in influenza cases and deaths post-COVID-19 onset. The findings underscore the importance of enhanced surveillance, increased vaccination coverage, and improved healthcare readiness to manage Influenza and other infectious diseases.
