Start up control strategy for pumped storage doubly fed units and the RTDS Verification
The doubly fed induction motor-based variable speed pumped storage system holds a pivotal role in the establishment of modern power systems and has garnered extensive attention and research in recent years. This paper specifically focuses on the self-starting strategy for doubly fed variable speed pumped storage units. Initially, the principle of the self-starting strategy is analyzed. Subsequently, a segmented parameter control method is introduced, designed to achieve smooth and rapid self-starting. An RTDS experimental platform is then constructed, and meticulous experimental verifications are conducted according to the startup requirements. The experimental results confirm that the proposed control strategy fully satisfies the specified requirements and significantly reduces the start-up time.
