E2E-QoE Oriented Framework: An Alternative Solution for Collaborative Optimization

The end-to-end (E2E) optimization within the current commercial 5G networks has numerous challenges. First, although terminals can access QoE metadata from over-the-top service (OTTS) clients, they lack authority over radio resource management. Second, while networks are tasked with resource allocation, the encryption of service data for secure transmission impedes the network's ability to directly assess user QoE. Although the industry has initiated efforts to enhance the communication between OTTS and networks via the development of application programming interfaces (APIs), the lack of OTTS collaboration in sharing service feedback hampers the benefits of collaborative optimization. Addressing these obstacles, this study introduces an E2 E-QoE-oriented framework that can independently estimate user experience quality without relying on OTTS. Additionally, when OTTS is willing to cooperate by providing metadata, it can enhance the accuracy of the user experience estimation. The proposed framework is designed to provide an alternative solution for the joint optimization of services, ter-minals, and mobile networks. The effectiveness and practicality of the proposed model and frame-work were substantiated using real 5G data.
