Evaluation of Airtightness Performance in Special Evacuation Staircases based on Pressurization Zone Configuration for Smoke Control Systems

Leakage measurements using closed doors are necessary to prevent overpressure in smoke control systems. Following the ISO 9972 guidelines, this study measured the airtightness performance of different pressurization methods by applying them to staircases and auxiliary rooms in an 11-floor reinforced concrete building. The results showed that the simultaneous pressurization method reduced the airflow by approximately 37% compared to individual pressurization and that the auxiliary room exhibited a leakage per unit area more than five times higher than that of general areas. These findings highlight the need for differentiated airflow standards based on pressurization methods.

Abstract

Leakage measurements using closed doors are necessary to prevent overpressure in smoke control systems. Following the ISO 9972 guidelines, this study measured the airtightness performance of different pressurization methods by applying them to staircases and auxiliary rooms in an 11-floor reinforced concrete building. The results showed that the simultaneous pressurization method reduced the airflow by approximately 37% compared to individual pressurization and that the auxiliary room exhibited a leakage per unit area more than five times higher than that of general areas. These findings highlight the need for differentiated airflow standards based on pressurization methods.
