Numerical Analysis of the Influence of Driver Gases on the Penetration Depth of Particles Using a Micro-Shock Tube-Based Needle-Free Delivery Device
The drug powder is delivered using a micro-shock tube device into the human body without utilizing the needles. The effect of different driver gases is poorly understood. We considered three different driver gases, i.e., air, helium, and argon. Numerical simulations were conducted, and the penetration depth achieved by the drug particle was calculated using the formula available in the existing literature. The simulation outcomes were then compared to the practical results to validate the solver. It was observed that the helium gas propelled the particles at a high velocity compared to air and argon, confirming the particle’s higher penetration depth.
