The integration of Raman spectrometer with glove box for high-purity investigation in an inert gas condition

• Integrating a Raman spectrometer with a glove box enables reactive materials study. • Configuration enables preparation, characterization, and storing reactive materials. • We place only essential spectrometer parts inside the glove box to optimize space. • Our work involved designing electronics, software, mechanics, and optics for Raman. • Raman studies in an inert gas preserve Re 2 O 7 and prevent MoTe 2 oxidation. We present our integration of a Raman spectrometer with a glove box, which opens the possibility to conduct studies in a high-purity inert gas atmosphere. This innovative setup allows for the fabrication, optical inspection, and characterization of reactive materials under strictly controlled conditions, ensuring seamless operation without exposing samples to the external environment and thus significantly enhancing research reliability. Our development work included designing a system for point, line, and mapping analysis. The open architecture allows easy modifications and the addition of new components, synchronized via software or electronics. As a proof of concept, we show results recorded on Re 2 O 7 powder and ultrathin films of 2H-MoTe 2 grown on GaAs(111)B which are highly unstable in air, and provide clear evidence that sample stability is maintained allowing in-depth, long-lasting investigations. This research validates the key advantages of our solution in real-world applications.
