Potential criteria in multi-criteria evaluation of a substation site selection
The paper presents the results of a review of the criteria for substation site selection. From the literature review conducted, the main criteria were environmental, technical, economic, and social. The environmental sub-criteria are topography and environmental factors affecting system reliability. The technical sub-criteria are site dimensions, incoming line feeders, geological and geotechnical characteristics of the soil, access roads, telecommunications infrastructure, and security. The economic sub-criteria are costs of construction, new feeder, access roads, telecommunications, mitigation strategies of suburban areas, and security respectively. The social sub-criteria are legal and regulatory compliance and socio-political conditions. The study gives an understanding of the criteria for site selection.
