7 Important Lower Body Muscles for High Performance Tennis Players

ABSTRACT This article specifically focuses on the muscle groups of the tennis player’s lower body. Although multi-joint exercises such as squats and lunges are very important and often highlighted in the development of a lower body exercise program for tennis players, they often focus primarily on the major muscle groups such as quadriceps, hamstrings, gastrocnemius and soleus. This article, however, focuses on muscles that coaches and players may not be as familiar with but may be just as important for success on the court. These, often lesser known muscles help tennis players with the development of important strength, stability and joint integrity, as well as overall performance enhancement and injury prevention.
