Modelling the Structure of Co/Cu Superlattice Interfaces with Composite Buffer Layer

The article proposes an approach to three-dimensional modelling of the Co/Cu interface structure in superlattices. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra at the 59Co nucleus were constructed based on the data obtained from the modelling, which were then employed to interpret the experimental NMR spectra. It is demonstrated that in the interface region of the superlattices under investigation, copper is embedded into the cobalt island-type structure at a depth of one atomic layer. It is demonstrated that the introduction of an inhomogeneous embedding boundary is necessary for the accurate representation of the structural characteristics of interfaces in glass//(Ni80Fe20)40Cr60(5 nm)/[Co(1.5 nm)/Cu(0.9 nm)]20/Cr(3 nm) superlattices prepared via magnetron sputtering.
