A Voltage Vector Distribution-based ITSC Diagnosis Method for IM Driven by Dual-Vector-MPC Considering Effect of Duty Cycle

Ac induction motors (IM) are widely utilized in industrial applications due to their economic efficiency and high reliability. Among the various potential faults that may arise in IMs, a considerable proportion evolves from inter-turn short-circuit faults (ITF). Consequently, the development of efficient diagnostic methods for ITF is paramount. This paper meticulously analyzes the impact of ITF on the residuals between predictive and sampled values, the cost function, and the selected optimal voltage vector within Model Predictive Control (MPC) system. In this article, the MPC principle is fully exploited, and a novel method of ITF detection and location under MPC is proposed. The proposed method ingeniously constructs a fault detection indicator by leveraging the imbalance in voltage vector distribution within the closed-loop control under faulty conditions, thereby effectively achieving fault diagnosis. After further analysis of the current residual, the fault location is distinguished by the internal difference of the response of the control system to different fault location.
