PROTECTION OF CARBON STEEL WITH A PRESERVATION COMPOSITION WITH THE ADDITIVE OF PARAFFIN
In order to extend the service life of agricultural equipment, it is necessary to use anticorrosive protection. For this purpose, the protective ability of oil compositions with the addition of paraffin in relation to carbon steel was studied. The compositions were obtained on the basis of motor (M10G2k) waste oil. The physicochemical properties of the oil compositions were also studied. All the studied oil coatings provide a fairly close adhesion resistance to the metal surface, respectively, close strength and durability, therefore the values of protective efficiency (Z) provided by them will not differ greatly. The adhesion work values for compositions with paraffin, especially in MMO, are higher, respectively, higher Z values are expected for them. Empirical equations allowing one to determine the viscosity of the compositions at a temperature of 20 - 60 0C depending on the concentration of the additive were obtained. The Z value was estimated using both gravimetric and electrochemical methods. The data obtained by the polarization curve method indicate that Z increases with the concentration of the paraffin additive in the oil. At 10 mass % of the additive, Z = 94%. The data obtained during electrochemical measurements agree with the results of gravimetric tests in a 0.5 M NaCl solution, a temperature and humidity chamber, and full-scale bench tests. The high protective efficiency of the compositions with the addition of paraffin is also confirmed by the appearance of the plates after the tests.
