PRESERVATION COMPOSITION BASED ON BITUMEN PRIMER TO PROTECT CARBON STEEL FROM ATMOSPHERIC CORROSION

The use of anticorrosive protection is necessary to extend the service life of agricultural equipment. For this purpose, the protective efficiency (Z) of preservation compositions based on a bitumen primer additionally containing a solvent (55 or 65 wt. %), an inhibiting additive (5 wt. %) Emulgin, and distillate residues of synthetic fatty acids (SR-SFA) in relation to carbon steel was studied. The Z value was estimated using gravimetric testing methods: in a 0.5 M NaCl solution, in a G-4 heat and moisture chamber, and in-kind bench tests. The results obtained during tests in an electrolyte solution indicate that all compositions containing an inhibiting additive have high protective efficiency (Z = 93 - 98%). The data obtained in a G-4 heat and moisture chamber confirm this. The results of the tests conducted in the salt spray chamber show that after 16 days of exposure in these conditions, corrosion spots are already visible on the samples with coatings containing the additive Emulgin or SR-SFA, and there are no traces of corrosion on the plate coated with the composition with BP, which is apparently due to the greater thickness of the coating. Analysis of the samples with the applied test compositions during full-scale bench tests showed that the protective effect remained quite high both after 2 months and after 6 months and amounted to 95% to 97% after 2 months, and 92% to 98% after 6 months of exposure in open atmosphere conditions. The protective efficiency of coatings based on BP with Emulgin and SR-SFA are close.

Abstract

The use of anticorrosive protection is necessary to extend the service life of agricultural equipment. For this purpose, the protective efficiency (Z) of preservation compositions based on a bitumen primer additionally containing a solvent (55 or 65 wt. %), an inhibiting additive (5 wt. %) Emulgin, and distillate residues of synthetic fatty acids (SR-SFA) in relation to carbon steel was studied. The protective efficiency of coatings based on BP with Emulgin and SR-SFA are close.
