The influence of two groups with overlapping propagation behaviors on the propagation in a single-layer network

This scholarly paper delves into the ramifications of divergent information dissemination patterns exhibited by two distinct cohorts, denoted as Group X and Group Y, within a network framework, utilizing a social contagion model as the analytical lens. The study specifically selects a sample of 5000 individuals to constitute Group X and establishes varying thresholds for behavioral adoption to delineate the behavioral disparities between Group X and Group Y. Group X is characterized by its adoption of the behavior exclusively when the ratio of information dissemination to node degree falls below a predefined threshold, denoted as a, whereas Group Y adopts the behavior when this ratio is situated between [Formula: see text] and 1. By setting [Formula: see text] and systematically altering the value of b, the study quantifies the impact of behavioral congruence between the two groups on dissemination outcomes. Theoretical dissection and empirical simulation data collectively suggest that an increment in b correlates with a reduction in the adoption threshold for the less-sensitive group, facilitating global adoption even at diminished propagation probabilities, denoted as [Formula: see text], thereby enhancing the dissemination process. This inquiry provides both qualitative and quantitative insights into the influence of group heterogeneity on propagation dynamics and the mechanisms that underpin these phenomena. However, the current scope of the study is confined to the analysis of two groups. Subsequent research endeavors will broaden the scope to encompass multiple groups and more intricate propagation scenarios, thereby enriching the comprehension of the role of group heterogeneity in shaping propagation behavior.
