Impact of Information Presentation on Crime Prevention, Exclusivity, and Xenophobic Attitudes
The literature suggests that increased crime prevention awareness may increase negative attitudes toward others. Thus, this study investigated how crime prevention information affects typical others, specifically outgroups and foreigners. Two hypotheses were tested using data obtained from 927 Japanese individuals: first, the presentation of crime prevention information strengthens exclusivist and xenophobic attitudes; second, this relationship is mediated by fear of crime. Neither hypothesis was supported by the results.
