Prevalence Pattern of Gram-negative Bacilli, Multidrug Resistant and Extensively Drug-resistant Bacteria Isolated from Clinical Specimens: A Study from Southern Haryana, India

Gram-negative bacteria are one of the most important causes of public health problems in the world due to their high antibiotic resistance. The prevalence of Gram-negative bacilli from clinical specimens and to estimate the prevalence of MDR and XDR. This was a prospective cross-sectional study carried out at Microbiology department, SHKM GMC Nalhar, Haryana from July 2022 to December 2022 after obtaining IEC approval. 163 samples (55%) yielded Gram-negative bacilli (GNB) isolates. Among the 163 Gram-negative isolates, 120 (73.6%) were identified as fermenters, while 43 (26.3%) were non-fermenters.26 isolates (21.66%) were classified as multidrug-resistant (MDR), while 6 isolates (5%) were identified as extensively drug-resistant (XDR). An increasing trend of MDR and XDR was observed in GNBs.
