Introduction and purpose Polyphagia is a rare symptom described as an excessive food intake due to an abnormally strong and persistent sensation of hunger or desire to eat. Diseases that can lead to polyphagia are numerous and include several medical specialties, such as endocrinology, neurology and psychiatry. Polyphagia leads to overweight and severe obesity, reduces quality of life, has a negative impact on the patient’s mental health and eventually causes premature death. Therefore identifying and addressing the root cause of polyphagia is crucial for effective management and treatment. This article aims to explore the most common causes, the latest research and potentials in the treatment of polyphagia.
