Emotion-based Design Guidance on Smartphone Design for Older People

Population aging is likely to be one of the most important social trends of the twenty-first century, affecting almost all areas of society. As a result of the aging of the world's population, research on older people has become more extensive, and the needs of older people have received significant attention. With the increasing popularity of smartphones, phones have become a necessity for older people, who need them to contact their children, carry out their daily lives, and even for entertainment. However, as technology advances and smartphone companies continue to introduce new smartphones, the functions of smartphones have become more and more diversified, and the interfaces have become increasingly complex. Most older people experience a wide range of problems when using their smartphones, and the design of smartphones seldom takes into account the difficulties that older people have in using them. As the aging situation intensifies, the need for smartphones designed for older people is becoming more and more prominent. After a comprehensive review and refinement of the existing literature, this paper summarizes the main design guidelines for smartphones for older people. To address the gaps in the literature, this paper proposes some theoretical references for the emotional aspects of smartphones for older people.
