Evaluation of three-dimensional morphological characteristics of recycled coarse aggregate

This study focuses on the three-dimensional morphological characteristics of recycled coarse aggregate (RCA). Using 3D laser scanning and spherical harmonic function analysis, this study determines the optimal number of coordinate points for RCA across various Fuller gradation particle size ranges. A comprehensive assessment of RCA particle size parameters (3D size, volume, surface area) and shape parameters (sphericity, angularity, convexity) are conducted. Specifically, this study develops an innovative quantitative evaluation method for particle morphology based on the distribution characteristics in RCA particle shape parameters. Additionally, six distinct discrete element physical models with specific shape parameters are identified. These research results fill the research gap in RCA morphological analysis, offering parametric support for the construction of non-spherical geometrical models of RCA across different size ranges and contributing to the understanding of RCA properties for construction material applications.
