Savoirs environnementaux et circulations : perspectives géohistoriques situées depuis la Caraïbe

Abstract This article raises the question of circulations in the production and transmission of environmental knowledge in the Caribbean context. Based on a geo-historical analysis from the Caribbean region of Costa Rica, the article opens up perspectives to think about local environmental knowledge and spatial sense of belonging shaped through circulations. It also questions modes of engagement with the environment that are rooted within memories and experiences of resistance to social and ecological violence. The article thus focuses on Black ecologies made invisible by the scientific epistemology of tropical ecology, and proposes to think about local knowledge outside the traditionally privileged category of indigeneity in the context of the Americas. Environmental knowledge, circulations, Black ecologies, Caribbean, Black Atlantic
