The following pages collect the results of ethnographic field work carried out between 2009 and 2024 in a town in the province of Ciudad Real called Tomelloso, known nationally and internationally for being a land of vineyards and for having the largest Cooperative of wines from Europe and one of the largest in the world: The Virgen de las Viñas wine cooperative. In Tomelloso everything revolves around the vine as an element that gives identity to the inhabitants of the place and whose cultivation has become the main economic activity represented by the celestial Patroness of the town: La Stma. Virgen de las Viñas that takes on a starring role in the Pilgrimage. A festival that is celebrated in the middle of the spring season and where we can observe different rituals, such as the pilgrimage ritual of commensality or the symbolic rites of solicitation, also called prayers in petitional and incantation modality (rogations).
