Design of a single-phase bidirectional charger for power flow control in electric vehicles
Abstract Environmentally friendly and a carbon neutral future highly rely on the use of Electric Vehicles for commute. The ease of charging and the accessibility of vehicle infrastructure, however, remain key factors in the mainstream adoption of Electric Vehicles. The paper focuses on the design, analysis and control of a bidirectional single ended primary inductor type converter (SEPIC). The dynamic behaviour of the converter with load variations were presented along with performance parameters which explains the operation of the bidirectional charger in Vehicle-to-X charging modes. Also, a review on the bidirectional DC-DC converter topologies is covered in this paper. Simulations were performed in MATLAB environment and the results were presented under various operating scenarios of the converter topology.
