Successful treatment of parenteral iron induced cutaneous siderosis with 1064nm Q-switched Nd:YAG laser
Cutaneous siderosis is an accumulation of iron in the dermis and the subcutaneous tissue secondary to extravasation of an intramuscular or intravascular iron injection which leads to a permanent brownish-gray discoloration of the skin. In our case report, we present the successful treatment of hyperpigmentation caused by extravasation of iron infusion with Q-switched 1064nm Nd:Yag laser. Q-switched lasers seem to be the optimal therapeutic solution for cutaneous siderosis with minimal side effects, good patient satisfaction and excellent cosmetic results.
