Application of Adaptive Hierarchical Grids to Simulation of Laser-Generated Plasma Fluxes

A computational technique for high-temperature plasma flows produced by intensive laser action on solid targets is presented with application of hierarchic adaptively refined meshes for adequate resolution of the flow structure. The model is based on gasdynamics equations including effects of heat conductivity, laser beam propagation and energy transport by thermal radiation. Governing system of equations, expressed in the form of conservation laws, is approximated by a difference scheme of high accuracy order. The modeling technique is implemented using AMReX—a software environment for applications of massively parallel, block-structured locally adaptive-refined grids. A test example, which consists of modeling the plasma flow during heating of Sn-target by nanosecond laser radiation, demonstrates а good quality of the numerical solution.
