NUMERICAL TREATMENT OF LOWER HYBRID RESONANCE IN PLASMA

In this work, the slow wave equation for the Ez component and the expression for the Poyting vector were obtained from the system of Maxwell's equations. The analysis of these equations is given with respect of the lower hybrid resonance point presence. The capacities of the penalty method and the analytical continuation method are analyzed in connection to their usage for electromagnetic plasma wave propagation numerical treatment using the Galerkin approach within finite element discretization. Numerical calculations of the slow wave equation were carried out, values of relative errors were calculated for the two methods, and the results were analyzed.

Abstract

In this work, the slow wave equation for the Ez component and the expression for the Poyting vector were obtained from the system of Maxwell's equations. The analysis of these equations is given with respect of the lower hybrid resonance point presence. The capacities of the penalty method and the analytical continuation method are analyzed in connection to their usage for electromagnetic plasma wave propagation numerical treatment using the Galerkin approach within finite element discretization. Numerical calculations of the slow wave equation were carried out, values of relative errors were calculated for the two methods, and the results were analyzed.
