Writing Ecotones
In this creative-critical essay, I examine my personal experience with genre distinctions between artistic and scholarly forms of writing, and the ways that blending these approaches has enriched how I situate myself within writing ecologies (Dobrin, 2001; Cooper, 1986) and environments (Rule, 2019; Stone, 2023). Specifically, I focus on the “middle voice” of creative-critical writing as opening a space for resilience, adaptation, and survival in the middle—between personal loss and the tragedies of massive scale social and environmental justice problems we are collectively experiencing.
