Intracranial Birth Injuries in the Full-Term Neonate: Case Report and Literature Review
Symptomatic traumatic epidural hematoma (EDH) in a newborn is extremely rare. These injuries can occur for various reasons, such as prolonged labor, fetal distress, assisted delivery techniques such as forceps or vacuum extractors, or cesarean sections. Our literature research identified a total of fewer than 20 such patients with a skull fracture and underlying EDH, of which eight were treated with surgical decompression.
