Antihypertensive Drug Amlodipine Besylate Shows Potential in Alleviating Diabetic Peripheral Neuropathy
The antihypertensive drug amlodipine besylate (AB) is a novel G-protein-coupled receptor 40 agonist able to ameliorate diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN)-like pathologies in mice. AB represses inflammation, apoptosis, and mitochondrial dysfunction in DPN mice. AB suppressed the cross talk between Schwann cells and endothelial cells/dorsal root ganglia neurons. AB shows potential in treating late-stage DPN.
