Photocrosslinkable GelMA Hydrogel for Antibacterial and Osteogenesis in Osteomyelitis
The complex, antagonistic, and varied nature of osteomyelitis presents difficulty in effectively eliminating bacteria and promoting osteogenesis through traditional therapeutic methods. Functional hydrogels with antibacterial and osteogenic properties have recently emerged as an effective method for osteomyelitis wound healing in clinical practice. In this study, a composite hydrogel was prepared by combining Doxycycline-loaded Bioglass particles (BG@DOX) into the photocrosslinking matrix of methacrylate gelatine (GelMA). The results showed that the composite Gel-BG@DOX hydrogel had antibacterial properties against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria (Gram-positive) and Escherichia coli bacteria (Gram-negative) during 24 h, in vitro blood clotting ability (2 min), cytocompatibility against MG-63 osteoblast cells ($\gt$ 103% cell viability after 3 days of culture), and excellent osteogenic differentiation following a five-day cultural period. for summary, multifunctional Gel-BG@DOX hydrogel possesses significant osteoconductive, hemostatic, and antibacterial properties, which makes it a promising therapy option for osteomyelitis.
