Effective Smart Bin Monitoring System using Arduino and GSM Module

Effective waste management is a significant challenge in urban/rural environments, driven by increasing population density and waste generation. This paper aims to enhance the management of urban/rural waste by automating the separation of waste wet and dry and streamlining the sorting procedure. To guarantee correct waste sorting at the source, the system combines real-time monitoring and automation with timely notifications for collection. Wet sensors are used to identify wet and dry waste; ultrasonic sensors are used to measure bin fill levels and empty levels; servo motors are used for automated segregation; GSM modules are used for communication; and microcontroller (such as an Arduino UNO) is used to coordinate the system. The project’s outcomes demonstrate exact waste segregation, continuous empty-bin alarms, and real-time bin-level monitoring.
