A MALDI-TOF MS-based approach to improve group B Streptococcus screening among pregnant people in Brazil
Discussion: The study highlights the profound effects of drug unavailability of Anti-HIV, Anti-TB and Anti-malarial drugs on global health. It reveals how unavailability contributes to therapy failure and the emergence of resistance, limiting treatment options. The gaps in understanding the economic and ecological impacts of unavailability are alarming.Lack of transparency on causes and the influence of supply and demand worsen the situation.Governments and regulatory bodies should mandate reporting and transparency to address these issues effectively. Conclusions: Concerted effort is needed to evaluate the impact of these drug unavailability on health outcomes, and cost implications including due to changes in available alternative agents and the implications of these changes in demand on supply chains.Interventions to address unavailability should be studied to determine cost and impact.Additionally, it is crucial to devise strategies that capitalize on the manufacturing capacity in LMICs to effectively tackle this issue.
