Enhancing Healthcare Workers' Preparedness at points of Entry; role of capacity building Training

Introduction: A country's points of entry (POEs) are the identified potential areas for effective interventions for infectious disease prevention and biosecurity across borders. Ensuring the preparedness of healthcare workers at points of entry i.e. airports, seaports, and land crossing is of paramount importance amidst the evolving global threats. Capacity-building training equips these frontline workers with the knowledge, skills, and resources necessary to identify, assess, and respond to potential health threats promptly and effectively. These entry points serve as primary gateways for the spread of infectious diseases, including pandemics and emerging outbreaks. Effective healthcare worker preparedness is a key line of response against the rapid transmission of public health emergencies. The study aimed to assess the critical role of capacity-building training in enhancing the readiness and effectiveness of healthcare personnel at points of entry, such as airports, seaports, and border crossings. Method: The study involved a comprehensive review of existing capacity-building training initiatives. Qualitative and quantitative data were gathered through surveys, and document reviews evaluating the effectiveness of these programs in enhancing healthcare workers' competencies. Results: The findings indicate a significant improvement in healthcare workers' preparedness following targeted capacity-building training. Enhanced communication skills, rapid response mechanisms, and a deeper understanding of infectious diseases have been observed among trained professionals. Discussion: The assessment of capacity-building training initiatives for healthcare workers at points of entry reveals promising outcomes in enhancing their preparedness and effectiveness in responding to public health threats. The findings underscore the importance of investing in standardized training programs to equip frontline workers with essential skills and knowledge. Improved communication, rapid response capabilities, and a deeper understanding of infectious diseases among trained personnel highlight the effectiveness of these initiatives. Moreover, this study emphasizes the pivotal role of healthcare worker preparedness in bolstering overall public health responses and serves as a blueprint for implementing best practices in managing health emergencies at points of entry. Moving forward, sustained investment and continuous evaluation of training programs are crucial to maintaining the readiness of frontline workers and ensuring effective responses to emerging health threats. Conclusion: This study provides valuable insight into policy formulation, emphasizing the need for sustained investment in capacity-building training programs through standardized curriculum development for the POE workforce. Strengthening healthcare workers' preparedness at points of entry, not only fortifies public health responses but also serves as a model for best practices in managing health emergencies.
