High-purity 2D layered titanium sulfide: Synthesis and its role in ultra-high temperature lubrication
In this study, high-purity TiS, characterized by excellent thermal stability and high-temperature oxidation resistance, was successfully synthesized. The crystal structure, stability, electronic structure, and elastic modulus of TiS were thoroughly investigated using first-principles calculations based on density functional theory (DFT). Tribological tests showed that from room temperature (RT) to ultra-high temperature (950 °C), the high-purity TiS coatings exhibit excellent tribological performance. At 950 °C, the minimum coefficient of friction (COF) was 0.195 and the minimum wear rate was 3.66 × 10 −7 mm 3 /(N·m).
