A Research on the Development of Technology to Provide Air Respirator Status Information using Wireless Communication

Firefighter training systems, such as those provided by the National Fire Service Academy, offer various testbeds for skill development. However, there is a notable lack of training technologies that quantitatively support performance evaluation and provide feedback based on physical data generated during training exercises. Air respirators, which are crucial for monitoring the breathing volume of firefighters in training scenarios, currently lack mechanisms to transmit detailed status information externally. This study proposes the integration of wireless communication technology to measure and transmit the pressure data of air respirators consumed during training to an external control system. This advancement is expected to enable the quantitative evaluation of trainee performance in real time. To achieve this goal, a wireless communication-enabled system was developed to transmit air respirator usage data to a field command center within a training testbed. The accuracy and usability of this system were verified through repeated experiments focused on data acquisition and validation.
