The Sequential Mediating Effect of Self-Acceptance and Positive Psychological Capital in the Influence of Mother’s Experience of Supporting Autonomy by Original Parents on Emotion-Coaching Parenting

Objectives: This study examined the sequential mediating effects of self-acceptance (SA) and positive psychological capital (PPC) on the influence of mothers’ experiences of supporting autonomy by their original parents (MESA) on emotion-coaching parenting (ECP).Methods: Three hundred participants were recruited through an online survey. Data were analyzed using SPSS 27 and Macro version 4.1 (Models 4 and 6).Results: This study’s findings are as follows: First, SA played a mediating role in the relationship between the MESA and ECP. Second, PPC also mediated the connection between the MESA and ECP. Third, both SA and PPC sequentially mediated the association between MESA and ECP.Conclusion: This study’s significance is that identified a pathway through which MESA influences ECP. This pathway operates via SA and PPC. While the importance of ECP has been emphasized and related programs have been researched, studies exploring the variables impacting this parenting style remain limited. This study provides foundational data for the development of intervention strategies aimed at enhancing mothers’ ECP attitudes.

Abstract

Objectives: This study examined the sequential mediating effects of self-acceptance (SA) and positive psychological capital (PPC) on the influence of mothers’ experiences of supporting autonomy by their original parents (MESA) on emotion-coaching parenting (ECP).Methods: Three hundred participants were recruited through an online survey.
