Research on crack propagation utilizing improved bond-based peridynamic theory
Abstract The Peridynamics theory has advantages in solving discontinuity problems, but the classical bond-based Peridynamics kernel function is fixed, and the bond force will disappear suddenly when reaching the critical elongation rate, which will lead to simulation distortion. In this paper, the kernel function of Peridynamics is improved, and the Peridynamics simulation is carried out for the calculation examples with circular holes and prefabricated cracks. The findings indicate that the enhanced kernel function relation equation effectively captures the principle that the strength of long-range forces diminishes as the distance between material points increases. The emergence and expansion bifurcation law for cracks has been determined using an enhanced method applied to a flat plate with a circular hole and a pre-fabricated single-cracked numerical example. This improved method effectively predicts the outcomes of crack propagation.
