Modeling and analysis of wave energy generation device using particle swarm optimization algorithm

Abstract This paper studies the maximum power optimization method of swinging buoy wave energy power generation device (PTO system) based on the particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm. This device makes the float and the oscillator move relative to each other through the heaving action of the waves, driving the damper to do work and output energy. Based on the wave theory and single-degree-of-freedom damped system model, this paper assumes that seawater is an ideal fluid, establishes a mechanical model of the float and oscillator, and solves the equations of motion through the Runge-Kutta method. The PSO algorithm is then employed, with the damping coefficient serving as the decision variable, to optimize the PTO system’s average output power and determine the maximum power associated with the optimal damping coefficient. The results show that wave height, frequency and floating mass have a significant impact on the system power output, providing a theoretical basis for the optimal design of wave energy power generation devices.
