A new method for characterization of the cohesion of sodium hyaluronate gel
Abstract Cohesion refers to the ability of the material not to separate, and the evaluation of cohesion for hyaluronic-based tissue fillers is conducive to their clinical application. In this paper, a characterization method based on gel microcolumn stretching is developed for the cohesion of hyaluronic acid-based fillers. The method has clear physical significance and can be used to measure the true stress-strain relationship of soft gel fillers. We use this method to measure the cohesion of four hyaluronic acid-based fillers and evaluate the cohesion of the same products using the method based on ASTM F2258-05 and the drop weight method. The results show that the three assessments of the relative cohesion trends of the four gel products were basically the same, demonstrating the rationality of our proposed method. It will promote the standard and scientific characterization of the cohesion of gel fillers.
