The concept of "nesting orientalism" in the Eastern European socio-philosophical discourse
The paper examines the phenomenon of group and national identity, constructed on the basis of the East-West dichotomy. The aim is to analyze the concept of "nesting orientalism", which is still widespread in the Russian scientific literature, proposed by the Serbian researcher M. Bakic-Hayden. This concept is derived from the "orientalism" of E. Said, whose research demonstrated how over the centuries, thanks to the totality of orientalist representations, the East began to position itself as the ideological opposite of the West. The main idea of the "nesting orientalism" concept is, on the one hand, to move away from considering the images of the East and the West as homogeneous entities, on the other hand, to show the heterogeneity of the image of the East. The author of this work analyzes the concept of "nesting orientalism" in its original form, described by M. Bakich-Hayden, and conducts a comparative analysis of the application of the concept by other researchers: in which areas it was applied, for what purposes, what changes or additions it was subjected to. The conclusion is drawn that the concept of "nesting orientalism", unlike "orientalism", allows: firstly, to move away from the homogeneous binary of East-West; secondly, to look at the image of the "East" not as a single whole, but as a set of identities of various social groups, which are often They build their identities on the basis of purposeful mar ginalization of neighboring or other social groups closest to them.; Thirdly, it is necessary to analyze the process of identity construction and self-representation not only in the context of ethnic and religious, but also socio economic differences between social groups. The concept of "nesting orientalism" can be used in Russian socio philosophical research in the fields of studying the construction of group identities, the processes of self presentation or marginalization of various social groups.
