Developing an English-Korean translation tool using GPT, API, and Google Colab

This study explores the development of an English-Korean translation tool using ChatGPT and Google Colab, with a specific focus on translating English literature. The research demonstrates how educators can utilize the GPT-4 API and Python code generation through ChatGPT to create customized translation tools without extensive programming knowledge. Using “The Great Gatsby” as the source text, the study implemented chunk-based processing to effectively handle API token limitations. The developed tool demonstrated promising performance in preserving linguistic accuracy and literary expression, though challenges remained in translating cultural contexts. This research extends beyond previous studies that mainly examine the usage of existing translation tools, offering practical methods for developing custom translation tools in literature education. The findings suggest new possibilities for integrating AI technology into English literature education while identifying areas for further improvement in automating literary translation.
