Who grabs the land? Unveiling the role of domestic actors in the global land rush
Large-scale land acquisitions produce complex effects on land and people. This paper, using a multi-scalar approach, investigates investor origin and its impact on LSLA processes. It sheds light on domestic actors’ role in the global land rush. It argues that multi-scalar and dynamic forms of domestic powers of exclusion shape land acquisition processes. Domestic and foreign forces are both involved in land grabbing in multiple and complex ways, emphasising the need for a greater focus on the impacts’ typology and scale rather than reducing the phenomenon to the foreign-domestic dichotomy.
