Detecção de bomba de efluxo em espécies de Staphylococcus coagulase negativa isoladas de mastite caprina

The efflux system is one of the mechanisms responsible for conferring bacterial resistance to various classes of chemical compounds, whether antibiotic, dye, antiseptic or disinfectant. The aim of this study was to investigate the presence of efflux pump in coagulase-negative Staphylococcus species isolated from dairy goats’ subclinical mastitis. To investigate the presence of this mechanism was used the methodology based on ethidium bromide (BrEt) expulsion. The results showed that of the 95 bacterial strains investigated, 12 (12.6%) were positive for the presence of efflux pump and 83 (87.4%) were negative. The isolates of S. capitis subsp. ureolyticus showed the highest percentage of positivity among the evaluated species. The results demonstrate that coagulase-negative Staphylococcus from goat mastitis carry an important antimicrobial resistance mechanism which may interfere with the treatment of the disease in the farm environment, causing economic losses to the farmer and representing public health risks.
