Unveiling patterns: time series clustering of energy consumption in the Greek energy sector
In recent years, the energy sector has gathered a lot of attention from researchers to policymakers and industry stakeholders, driven by the goal to improve the sustainability and robustness of energy systems. Central to this discourse is the analysis of energy consumption patterns, as a means to gain a deeper understanding and further improve the load forecasting attempts. Through traditional approaches to energy consumption analysis several limitations emerge, by recognizing them the efforts have shifted to different techniques to unlock the full potential of energy consumption data. Among these techniques, time series clustering emerges as a powerful tool for uncovering hidden patterns, identifying distinct consumption profiles, and informing targeted interventions. By treating energy consumption data as time series sequences, clustering methodologies enable the grouping of similar consumption patterns based on their temporal dynamics, shape, and magnitude.
