Domestic violence: causes, prevalence
Today, there is no consensus on the primary causes of domestic violence, which is due to a wide range of theoretical approaches ranging from micro- to macrotheories. These theories include both an analysis of the psychological state of an individual and an assessment of the impact of socio-cultural factors and structural aspects of social organization. Adherents of the concept of social determination pay special attention to studying the influence of cultural norms that contribute to the emergence of aggressive forms of behavior, and also analyze the role of the patriarchal structure in a society in which male dominance prevails. From a psychological perspective, the key factors contributing to the increase in domestic violence incidents are frustration, a tendency toward aggression, insufficient development of skills to control instinctive reactions, alcohol abuse, and psychopathic disorders.
