A Hybrid 2.5D T-matrix Extraction Technique for Efficient Field Analysis

The complexity in electromagnetic scatterers has grown significantly over the past few decades. Traditional approaches for modeling their scattering characteristics often depend on full-wave simulations or analytical techniques limited to regular geometries. These methods, however, are inefficient and not suitable for optimizing and designing complex structures nor for simulation in large spaces. This paper introduces a novel 2.5D T-matrix extraction method designed for scatterers with arbitrary shapes. The approach facilitates efficient simulation of electromagnetic structures with complex geometries and configurations. The extraction process leverages vector cylinder wave expansions combined with numerical simulations of surface fields, minimizing computational overhead and addressing the limitations of conventional methods when handling irregular shapes. To validate the proposed method, several numerical examples involving scatterers of varying shapes are presented and compared against full-wave simulation results.
