A 60GHz Variable Gain Phase Shifter with 9-Bit Phase Resolution for Phased Array in 65nm CMOS

This paper presents a 60GHz variable gain phase shifter (VGPS) with 9-bit phase resolution in 65nm CMOS technology for phased array. The proposed phase shifter is realized by employing liner phase control technique and a wideband in-phase /quadrature (I/Q) network. The simulated 3-dB bandwidth is 47-65GHz. By current reusing and gain control technology, the gain of VGPS is -27 to -4.6dB and the root-mean-square phase error is below 0.34°. This chip consumes 14.5 mA from a 1-V voltage supply and the core of the phase shifter is <tex xmlns:mml="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML" xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink">$560\text{um}\times 610\text{um}$</tex>.
