Genomic Insights into the Carbon and Energy Metabolism of a Thermotolerant, Obligately Chemolithoautotrophic, Sulfur-Oxidizing Bacterium Thiofaba tepidiphila EF100

A thermotolerant, obligate chemolithoautotrophic, aerobic, sulfur-oxidizing bacterium designated as strain EF100 was isolated from the Solnechny Spring of the Uzon Caldera (Kamchatka, Russia). Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequences showed that the strain EF100 belongs to the Thiofaba tepidiphila that is only species of the genus Thiofaba. Until now, the genome sequence of T. tepidiphila type strain has not been available. Here, we report genome sequencing of T. tepidiphila EF100 and describe the genetic determinants of the main metabolic processes, focusing on the mechanisms of oxidation of reduced sulfur compounds, aerobic respiration and pathway of CO2 fixation.
