Schade in de geboortezorg
Harms in obstetric care – An explorative study of obstetric violence from a critical criminological perspective The concept of obstetric violence is upcoming in critical scientific research, but criminological attention for the topic remains scarce. This publication aims to change this, and gives a first analysis of obstetric violence in the Netherlands through a critical criminological perspective. Both case law and stories of women who have experienced obstetric violence during their pregnancy or birth have been analysed, in order to see how this phenomenon is perceived by the judicial system on the one hand and by these women on the other hand. A zemiological perspective was hereby chosen to highlight the harms conceived by obstetric violence, with a focus on power imbalances in obstetric care.
