Unguarded Areas and Rural Insecurity in Nigeria, 2010–2022
This study investigated the link between unguarded areas and rural insecurity within the context of the Nigerian State. It argued that poor deployment of security technologies to rural areas induces rural insecurity in Nigeria. The ungoverned spaces thesis underpinned the study and informed its adoption of mixed research strategies to generate detailed data/information necessary to provide insights into the problem under investigation. Data examination revealed a correlation between the key variables. The findings suggest the need for effective rural security surveillance and adequate deployment of modern security technologies to rual areas, with capacity building for security personnel to keep them abreast of modern security gadgets to abate rural insecurity in the country.
