IBC Oxford University Oral Abstract 16 - Video abstract: distalisation of Roux-en-Y gastric bypass for weight loss
Abstract Background Insufficient weight loss or weight recurrence can occur in 15% of patients that undergo a Roux-en-Y gastric bypass (RYGB). Performing a distalisation and altering the length of the total alimentary limb length (TALL) can cause more weight loss. Methods This video discusses the types of distalisation of a RYGB and outcomes. It highlights the technical aspects of the surgery. Results A robotic distalisation is performed on a patient that had weight recurrence after a RYGB. The TALL was changed to 400 cm. Conclusion Decreasing the TALL is an effective method to combat weight recurrence after RYGB. Surgeons should be careful to not cause malnutrition and closely follow these patients.
