IBC Oxford University Poster Abstract 21 - OverStitch procedure- can this be an alternative to revisional surgery?
Abstract Introduction OverStitch is an endoscopic procedure. It is done under general anaesthesia as a day case procedure. It is an alternative procedure for gastrojejunal anastomosis (GJA) dilatation post bypass procedure. Wide GAJ is associated with reactive hypoglycaemia, dumping, weight regain and inadequate weight-loss. Materials and Methods Our data from OverStitch procedure was analysed using SPSS software. We compared the results available in literature to outcomes from revision RYGB. We also look at the size of the GJA and the size of GJA after placing the stitch and its association with resolution of symptoms. All the patients who underwent OverStitch procedure were included in the study. Results and Outcomes Patients underwent OverStitch procedure for hypoglycaemia, dumping and weight-regain. Our results from OverStitch procedures about hypoglycaemia and dumping gave about 90% resolution of symptoms. The results from weight regain were modest. Further analyses suggested the underlying eating disorders in this group of patients. Conclusion OverStitch procedure can be a suitable alternative to revision RYGB Larger numbers of patients are needed for statistically significant results.
